Hi Guys I just got a 2011 Scion XD Super White, and im looking for Mods to do on him (its a DUDE, lol). Anyways, im only looking for exterior and interior mods, nothing on performance, other than suspension. I have no idea what to do, or where to look. I was hoping you could give me some ideas.

Right now im looking to buy some rims, but im not sure. OK im a computer geek, not much of a car savy...so you get an idea on my backgroud. I thought buying rims was just: "ohh look at those rims, i want those" but now i understand that i have to look for weight and stuff. So what would be a nice Dimenssion for the car 17" or 18", and what would be the weight i should be looking to if im not going to do any mod on the performance of the engine, i want to mantain the gas millage on the economic side.

PLEASE HELP!!.

If you're looking to maintain your fuel economy you might want to stick with 16's to save weight. You might still save some weight with the 17's or 18's since the steel wheels are kinda heavy. But probably not since you will be running wider tires. Basic performance mods (bolt ons) will actually free up power and you might see a slight boost in fuel economy.

welcome. i have 18s on mine and i'm still averaging 31mpg in mixed driving.

Like which basic performance mods...Also what you will call heavy rims, and what would'nt. Cause i have seen 18 pounds, 20...whatsthe weight of the OEM 16" alloy rims, cause thats the one the car came with...

I appreciate the help.

this is just my opinion, but once you get over 20lbs for rims, they are heavy to me. basic performance mods like cold air intakes, redone exhaust, ect. can honestly give you more mpg. problem is the driver likes the added performance and feel and ruins it by driving spirited lol. even with all of my mods i still average 34-36mpg. and thats not even trying to drive economical.

Not much off the shelf for the xD, but dig around in here a bit and you'll likely get some great DIY ideas.

I like where this is going....look at me talking all car-slang and stuff...lol
So a basic mod like cold air intake will give me a better millage per gallon? I live in Puerto Rico, so no much of Fast & Furios where im going to drive, so dont worry about getting "spirited". What else would be a basic performance mod?

About the rims im looking to this one:

go with a 17 inch rim. they fill in pretty nicely and aren't too expensive. see if you can track down some used springs. I went TRD and like the drop and ride. 3" cone filter from Autozone to open up the revs too. that's a MUST HAVE.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the xD...I had a long a$$ response typed out and I accidentally erased it so I said screw it...Spend a few hours searching through all the old threads on here and I'm sure you will find the answers you are looking for...

And for what it's worth, I have got 18x8's that are fairly heavy, a big a$$ custom built sound system, and a ragtop, and still average around 33-34 mpg with mixed city/freeway driving...Oh BTW, I have an automatic...

another question. The car is fairly new, only 3 weeks on the road, making mods like Cold Air intake, Lowering springs, rims and stuff wont void the Toyota Warranty? Just wondering...By the way, keep coming the comments, ill post pics of avery mod i make so you give me your feedback. Also i think i will go with the 17 inch MSR 166 model rims, black and silver.

YELOSUB
10-10-2011, 09:25 AM
Mods will only void the warranty if they can prove that the mod caused the damage...

macko_macko
10-10-2011, 10:03 AM
What lowering kit is better? Should i stay with TRD or can i go with another one? Should i buy the kit with the sock absorbers, or can i go with the stock one and buy for now only the springs? Also i though the cold air intake was only for racing, does it actually give you better millage?

JDMJim
10-10-2011, 11:17 AM
it's best to use shocks matched to the springs. a stiffer spring leads to bouncing which will turn the oil in the stock shock into foam and premature wear.

macko_macko
10-10-2011, 12:42 PM
But TRD springs with the stock schock absorbers (until i have the money to buy te TRD ones) is a bad choice?

xDizzle
10-10-2011, 07:56 PM
Get coilovers man they will be worth it dnt spend money on springs unless u dnt have enough for coils.. I have springs but now I want to be lower lol But that's just me

Mods will only void the warranty if they can prove that the mod caused the damage...

This....read up on the magnuson moss act....dealerships swindle people all the time out of warranties citing aftermarket parts as justified cause, and they only get away with this because the consumer allows them to do so....For them to prove that your aftermarket part voided the warranty is a hard case to press...let them know that you know about the magnuson moss act and they'll cave with ease.

Also, I believe they will cover TRD parts for as long as your warranty lasts, they won't warranty the aftermarket parts of course.

So i decided to go with the 17inch rims. Here is a pics of the one im getting
http://www.msrwheels.com/auto_car_wheels.cfm?id=428 . Probably gonna get them by the end of the month.

And also, this weekend im painting the calipers with the 3R3 color of Toyota. Im gonna post the pics later. So its starting, keep coming the ideas!!

TRD springs on stock shocks would work. But the overall feel of teh car might be better with teh shocks. considering the magnitude of install, save your money and do it right THE FIRST TIME.

Ok i know its not much, but i just did my first so call MOD. I painted my calipers Red Barcelona (Toyota Code 3R3). Ohh, and added a decal....i know i know, but i just couldnt help it. LOL. Let mw know what you think

10-18-2011, 03:24 PM
love the color. was it hard to paint them? i really want to do something like that in the coming spring.

macko_macko
10-18-2011, 03:44 PM
Actually it was pretty simple, just bought a 1/16 can of 3R3 toyota paint, with a can of clear spray for heat. Also a 1" paint brush. I just removed the wheels, and started painting really carefull with a paint brush, just 2 hands of paint per caliper. After that i sprayed each with the clear paint, 2 hands also.

They look great, they really pop out now. Even my wife love them, and she is fed up with me talking about the car....lol

OK so i need everyone opinion on this. I was going to buy new rims, but a friend suggested to paint mine gloss black. The thing is that im not entirely sure, cause I live in Puerto Rico so the roads here aint the racing type anyways. i was going to Buy 17 inch rims with 215/45 tires. Right now i have stock 16" allow rims. So what you think, buy new or paint stock?

1)I installed the mudguards
2)Tint my taillights
3)Tint my spoiler and gas lid black matte.
4)Installed led red strips in the interior of the car

I just bought the TRD lowering springs. I should be getting them next week. So'll post more pics once i installed them.

I'll attach some pics.

So, looking around the forum i found some good ideas for a DIY Intake. Actually i wanted the typhoon K&N Intake, but $250 for that i think it was too much, so i went with the DIY road. Tell me what you think.

P.S.
Right now I'm monitoring my MPG to see if it was any worth the change. BTW it only cost $30.

So, following the instructions from one of the users in this forum i did this little number DIY intake. it was fairly easy. Just follow the instructions in this link: http://www.scionxdforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=906

I dont know how to reset the MPG clock thou it went craxy. It went all the way down to 9MPG on saturday. I barely used my car on the weekend so today Monday its on 24 MPG and going up lil by lil. The same happend when i only change the air filter, it took up to 4 days to reach the expected MPG. I dont know if this is a usual behavior. Let me know.

looks good! looks almost exactly like mine. lol. i cant help ya with the mpg issue though. after i did my intake, i didnt have any issues with my mpg gauge. if anything mine went up. i was averaging around 32 before and now im getting around 34

So, quick question. I want an exhaust pipe, that gives me a nice sound (not too lound, im not aiming for that), gives me a nice hp boost, but it doesn't break my pocket like the TRD one would (it cost almost $400). Any suggestions?

1sweetxd
04-09-2012, 05:13 PM
like ive said before.....cut your muffler off and run straight pipe out the back to whatever tip you want to use. hella cheap and sounds really good considering we have a built in resonator.

i was going to put a magnaflow muffler on my car...we test fitted it and no muffler at all sounded a lot better! about the same loudness but it didnt have the high pitch like the muffler did. saved me almost $200.

So...i need your advise. LIke i mention i installed the DIY intake following the exact instruction, but i notice that instead of gaining MPG im loosing. Yes, the car feels it has more torque (or force, im new at this lol), but i thought that with that i was suppose to gain MPG. So instead of gaing 2 points like some mention, im loosing 2 instead. I'll post new pics i took just now to see if you guys notice something different i made or i should have made. Thanks for the help.

^only thing i can think of, looking at the pics, is youre getting happy with the skinny pedal. especially since its just 2mpg. a lot of times, people will do something like this and go WOT a lot more than before, thus they lose a little, even though they expect gains in mpg. its nothing against you. i had the same issue when i put my injen in lol.

So, some things happened to me today. First i got into a huge traffic today (I mean "War of the Worlds" traffic). So trying to avoid it, i got into a huge hole on the road (I can still taste the asphalt on my tongue) and made some damage on my painted rims. Second, i got my EZ-LIP, not quite what i was expecting. The tape didn't apply all the way to the end of the bumper (from right to left) so i had to made some adjustment to it. It looks nice thou, but i need second opinions. I'll post pics of everything.
