whoa, that last one is weird. the camera actually captured the individual LED's of my firefighter light, and somehow imposed them on my bumper... cool!!!!

So - are they bright? How much better can you see the road at night? Have you driven around with them yet? Anyone flash you? Boxers or Briefs?

Yes, much better, yes, no, and boxer-briefs.

how abouts a shot of the beam against the wall please?

Cylon_xD
04-11-2010, 05:57 PM
yeah, I'll need to get me a set of those, the Hi-lows like you got, Joe... I got some 8k "fake" bulbs in my xD right now, they are dim even compared to the stock lights...

you got LED bulbs in your city-light sockets in the headlights, don't you? I was curious how long they will withstand the heat from HID bulbs, especially if the HID run any hotter than regular bulbs... high temperatures will degrade LEDs and shorten their life, and in the xD the headlight bulbs are less than 2 inches away. I notice my LED bulbs need changed out about once or twice a year...

i had my LEDs for almost 2 yrs and i had HIDs for over a year and they still work so i think ul be good

JJGeneral1
04-12-2010, 08:03 AM
Fine, fine, i'll take a pic against a wall. I have like 1 or two beams from my right light that are "stray" scatter, other than that, no high beamers yet.

Troy, i think they'll be ok. I buy high quality product from china!!! $0.81 on ebay!!! might break the bank if i have to replace them. LOL

Cylon_xD
04-12-2010, 08:18 AM
OK, that's good to hear, Dizz... The LED bulbs in my headlights are 28-LED SMT bulbs and cost about $25 for the pair, so I don't want to have to replace those too often...!

JJGeneral1
04-12-2010, 12:03 PM
troy you talking about your show lights? or just cruising lights?

Cylon_xD
04-12-2010, 02:42 PM
Just my regular LED bulbs for daily driving...

JJGeneral1
04-12-2010, 03:26 PM
oh. i got a 4 LED light in each headlight. no problems yet, and the lights have been on for a few hours now. probably 5 or 6 hours so far.

Cylon_xD
04-12-2010, 06:37 PM
oops, I only have 25-LED bulbs in now, I forgot my 28-LED ones burned out a while back... I spent the money on these because I wanted them bright enough to use as daytime running lights... eh, not quite, but they still work good in the morning and evening drive times in the twilight period...

Wow, those are very well-defined patterns, for being HID bulbs in a reflector housing - hardly any scatter at all! Those patterns are actually tighter than my normal bulbs... Gonna have to get these for sure - how much do these run -are they the ones from HIDextra?

JJGeneral1
04-13-2010, 10:48 AM
Hidextra, and try to win a set on the facebook page troy. LOL

anyways, these ran $87 after the spring coupon code. these are H4 bi-xenon. if you order now and make the trip out here on the 24th, i can hook em up for ya. i got the perfect places to mount the ballasts and run the wires.

Cylon_xD
04-13-2010, 03:07 PM
nah, I never win anything... I don't have a good story to tell, either. I DO want the bi-xenon, I need high beams out here in Amish farm country, so I don't take out an arse and buggy, now wunst. LOL!

I already said I can't make it out for the 24th meet, I'm going to a car show at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading that day, I paid a $25 registration fee for it... let me know when the next P-burgh meet is - FYI, I'm still free both Memorial day weekend and the July 4th weekend, hint hint...

JJGeneral1
04-13-2010, 09:45 PM

So where'd ya mount your ballasts at?

JJGeneral1
04-15-2010, 12:07 PM
uh... one on top of the windshield wiper fluid container, and one on the driver side of the radiator "support".

there's a piece of metal there that if you clean it, and mount it, it is out of the way and fits perfectly.

i copied of some guy who did his on scionlife. you should check it there.

Nice I have the same kit, I'm just waiting for some 9000K LED'S to come in so I can do an install.

04-15-2010, 03:35 PM
yeah, I used to have blue LED bulbs in my headlights about a year ago, but an effin' local cop stopped me and made me remove them...

All my interior bulbs are blue, though...

superbrightleds.com swears up and down they are cool white and not blue but I will see when I hook them up. They are rated at 55 lumen each so they should be pretty bright.

9000k is quite Blue - 6000k would be cool white...

JJGeneral1
04-16-2010, 06:50 AM
starting at 8K is blueish... i have 5 K hid's... white... noon sun white.

6K has a tinge of blue. they call 6k "diamond white".

8 K starts the blue. 10 K bluer. 12 K blue with tinge of purple. The higher you get, the closer you go to purple.

counterwise, 4300K is stock. yellowish white.

3000K is yellow. 1000K is red. No need for anything that extreme. i think legally you can have 3K to 8K before you have legality issues.

Wow, I just ordered my HIDs on Thursday over my lunch hour, and they arrived in Saturday morning's mail - only two days to get them! :hands:

Now I got some work to do...!

JJGeneral1
04-19-2010, 08:09 AM
so troy, you get them in?

Cylon_xD
04-19-2010, 09:01 AM
No, not yet - and I might not get them in until perhaps this coming Sunday afternoon, if at all this week. I have a car show to get ready for on Saturday (don't need the HIDs installed for a daytime show!) and I also have a movie night Thursday to show AVATAR in my theater to a small crowd, so that will tie up another evening as well... I'll let you know once I get them in!

Did you mount yours with bolts or did you just use the double-sided tape included in the kit to mount your ballasts? I'm sure the tape won't last long in the engine compartment...

TheLittleDeviant
04-19-2010, 11:23 AM
I just ordered a new set of HIDs from HIDExtra.com, shipping was extremely fast, got here in 2 days, I should be installing them in a few days.

JJGeneral1
04-19-2010, 11:55 AM
i used the double adhesive. It seems to be holding well after probably 30+ hours of engine run time, including non stop running from 6 pm friday afternoon to 2 am saturday morning (fire calls, most of it engine idle).

It's been quite hot in there, but they seem to be holding strong still.

so...

i high beamed them back... and laid on the horn as they passed.

the lo/hi xenon/halogen low beam/high beam ones are $80 before the code i think. or $85.

the bi-xenon (high and low beam are the same bulb) are $105 before the codes. check out "scion owners!!!" on facebook and click on their links for coupon codes for $18 bucks off!!!

hey troy can u take some night pix with the parking lights on plz??? i realy wanna see how much they bright up compared to the 1s i have

Cylon_xD
04-23-2010, 06:50 PM
well, you can't really tell the brightness at night too well with photos, at least not with my cheap camera - it adjusts the shutter speed automatically... here are a couple I took last summer, before I got my eyelids, with only my led parking lights in the headlights and my Cylon scanning eye behind the grill... see what I mean? they look as bright as regular headlights in the photos...
