does it have the RCA outputs? the left/right channel plugs? if so, then you can hook up a sub. if not, you're SOL.

If no RCA's then your going to have to use a step down or upgrade to a better OEM unit.

well, unless you know the part number, and can look up pictures, or look at the manual, then there's really no way to know than to pull it out and look.

If there are no rca outputs I'm pretty sure you can get an adaptor. The bad thing would be that you would have to tap into the factory wire harness. You would tap into a speaker output. I may still have that part laying around. It was made by scoche. I bought it from walmart. I used it because I amplified my highs and mids and there where only outputs for a sub. I did that a few years ago with my cuttlas.

I am running 12" subs and an amp off the stock head unit. I have the middle unit of the three they offer from the dealership. I'm not sure if the basic unit has RCA adapters. I went with the middle unit because it has sub controls.

hence, it has sub controls, therefore it has the RCA plugs.

that's usually a good tip, if it doesn't have any kind of outside sub controls in the menu, then it more than likely cannot run a sub.

Best bet is to check E-Bay then and see if you can find an OEM unit then.

Base Radio that comes with every scion does NOT have RCA

Upgrade radio has the RCA

Nav has the RCA

i just hooked up a sub and amp to a 2010 base radio with no issues besides having to tap in the cigarette lighter for the amp and then realizing that i had the sub control off on the radio.

I have to disagree.

I believe the 2008 and 2009 scion base radios never had them or atleast for the xd just cause on my 2008 there wasn't any

I think the RCA's showed up on the base units for 2010 on the xD. I know the radio itself changed for '10 over the '08-'09's and that model does have the sub outs.
