For those not on ScionLife:

With the lack of any kind of particularly aggressive fitments among the xd owners here, i've decided to try my own luck at achieving a nice, aggresive fitment.

This thread is more or less for my amusement and to keep up with the status as it progresses, milestones, measurements things of that nature.

I'll start the thread with a little bit of basic information:

My car:

2009 Scion xD, Silver
Current Suspension: K-Sport Coilovers
Current Rims: O.Z. Racing Ultralagerras
Current Rim Size: 16x7 +35 Offset
Current Tires: 205/55/16

Now for a teaser:

New Rims: Corvette Sawblades
New Rim Size: 17x9.5 +56 (After adapters: Front: +40ish Rear: ????????)
New Tires: ??????????

Camber needed:
Front: ????????
Rear: ???????

Fenders rolled / pulled: ?????????

Part 1: Determining my desired offset

The particular wheels in question were picked due to the high width and high offset. The high offset is used as a buffer zone since I was unable to get any information on fitting 9.5" wide wheels at a fairly aggressive offset on the xD. Tomorrow i start taking wheels off, taking measurements, snapping pictures, and once ive gotten my comfortable measurements, and a couple extra bucks on the side, I order my spacers/adapters.

UPDATE: 10-6

Sorry i havnt been active for a couple days, works been insane, with so many big projects and giving the sig other whatevers left.

Yesterday I managed to get out in the pretty fall louisiana weather and do some testing on the front. To my surprise there is tons of room with coilovers installed, and clearance to the offset i want looks to be manageable. not an insane amount of poke, just enough for what i want.

Used a 1/2" piece of plywood to create a temporary spacer since i dont have the parts to mount anything properly yet.

pic's of the front ftw, dirty car ftl:

Also since i was able to put them on and get an idea and feel more comfortable about the rim selection now.

These are the rims im going to be fitting:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/5060443254_11a8d63c06_b.jpg

Set of rear sawblade wheels from an old vette c4.

Camber, and tire size are still going to be dependant on how friendly the fenders are rolling wize. but judging by what i see, 225's are no longer in the question and size range will be 205-215/45.

Will have more next time im able to get into the driveway with spare time.

Update 10-19-10

This weekend I saw a FS thread on the Vdub forums for a set of corvette adapters at 20mm all the way around, for a really good price. After going back and forth with the guy for a little while I found out the adapters were 1 of the 2 brands i was looking for, and a quick paypal later, they were being shipped to my door.

I was skeptical of the clearance 20mm would give me in the back, since in my previous measurements i was eyeing closer to 30mm spacers on the rear, but 20mm is what i wanted for the front. I figured worse case scenario i either a) grab a pair of Randode's spacer shims or b) order another pair of adapters and then id have a pair of spares.

well lets just say i was pleasantly surprised with both front and back fitments when i test mounted today.

the front is about as far as i expected from the suspension, and when i tested turning at full lock in each direction, cleared 100% everything else cleared, and did well.

Then was the rears. I mounted them up and looked closely. It seems that there is maybe a finger gap of clearance between the wheel and the suspension. I am still thinking that maybe another 10mm or so may be in order for the rears. I need opinions or experiences of how close you can get to the suspension out back guys.

rim / fender fitment

Will let the pics speak for themselves:

I'm really upset with myself right now. The cable for my Nikon is at the office today, so no pics until tomorrow.

As for the outside fitment compared to the fenders. You get to wait for tomorrow. Pictures tell the full tale. and I dont think i can be any happier with it.

This is my DD too, and our roads arent the best, but oh well. I prefer my coilovers too to bags, i just wish i could make the back sit lower. Did you have that problem with the Tiens in the back? I'm probably going to fiddle with the adjustment on the shocks and put some preload on my springs to get 1/2-1" lower. need to be tucking tire in the back for this setup to look the way i want. i just gotta watch because k-sport springs arent the stiffest. Dont need to be fender banging.

Better late than never. cash flow for things like rims and tires kinda slowed down there for the last month. After trying my own hand at polishing, i can say ill never be trying that again. Instead decided to drop off at the powder coaters. I wanted the selection to be a love/hate type of choice, and not as much something everybody would like and not love. Got my tires in this week, went to my shop and got them mounted, installed everything last night. more pictures when the sun stops being a total B**** Boat. but this is where shes at:

More low in the back planned for this weekend

Damn..... I hope the sun quits being a *%*&^ soon so you can post some pics from dead on the front and back.

If you put a thin film of Vasaline on your fenders it makes getting the rubber residue off much easier.

:)

Looks like all your effort really paid off.

you have any rubbing issues??? i rolled my fenders on mine but i think im rubbing at the point where the rear bumper and fender meet...

xDTool

I rub up front like crazy, but im running a 17x9.5 +30 and tucking front tires. No rubbing out back since i rolled my fenders thursday, and moved from a 35 offset to a 30 offset on my 9.5's. when i had unrolled fenders i was eating sidewall on edge of my tire close to the bead.

My car is higher than i want it to be in the back though. may actually work on lowering it some more this weekend. probably another inch or so i need to drop

I did notice where the rear bumper and fender meet is a bad spot, i was thinking about taking a grinder to it, but im waiting to see if i have any rubbing issues there.

i think it's key to what type of tires you run also. i've got a small stretch, and i've not rolled or did anything to my car. only recently i've started to rub in the front inside the fenders as i adjusted the tow on mine. but it has to be a very very full load and hit a mean dip on the freeway. other then that i've never had rubbing issues. 8.5 & 9 with a 205/40 tires so just a small stretch.

xDTool
01-31-2011, 10:12 AM
Oh thats definitly the case. I'm running 215/45's on 9.5" wheels, but i also have my front adjusted very low and my spec's are relatively aggressive. turned wheels i have to force a credit card between the tire and the fender.

and I'm not ballsy enough to run a 205 on a 9.5, i find 215s to already be a moderate stretch

LOL. last week just did a friend's 10" with the 205/40/18. must say it looked pretty good.

other options to look at is also the tire manufacturers. as certain tires give different stretches, even though they are the same spec's.

Yea i know falken 512s have a big reputation among the VW guys as some of the best stretching tires
