What springs are you running?
Thoughts? I am running TRD's and want to go lower. I've had Tein's on my xA and loved them, but read somewhere that they were soft on the xD. So, if you have springs that go lower than the TRD's, let me know what you think of them, thanks.

I have DF210 Tanabe Springs , I love the ride and the drop. Sets comfortable.

ah.. i'm running Tein Basic Coilovers on mine.. I had S techs on my xB until i bought coilovers for it though.. it sat nice and low
|
Rob, I went from the TRD's to the Tanabe DF210's and couldn't be happier...I love the way they ride! The ONLY complaint I have is that the rear sits lower than the front...But the ride is AWESOME...
|
Doug and Tim, are you guys running the stock shocks, TRD's, Tokiko's or ?
And does your rear sit low as well Doug? |
i'm running with my stock shocks.
|
im running stock suspension lol
|
Im only running the springs, all other components are stock...
|
Progress springs here... similar drop as the the rears with DF's, but with same drop in the front, too - about 2.3" or so...
|
So the Tenabe's sit lower in the back than the front, but the Progress sits level?
Not a big fan of the bow high look. Why would a company do that? High performance stuff should rake down to the front, not the rear. How do the Progress springs ride Troy and are you running the stock shocks too? |
They might be considered just a little soft with the stock struts, but it's hard to tell, I sit low enough in the front that I bottom out pretty easily - probably only an inch or so of travel left on the stock struts, even with cutting the bumpers down by almost half on them... I've never ridden with any other springs, so I don't really have anything to compare the ride with.
|
Thanks guys.
It was so much easier when I had my first gen B. I could ask around at meets and find out who had what and usually get a chance to drive or at least get a ride to see how it worked/felt. I ended up going with a set up from H&R that included matched dampers/shocks. Not quite 2 inches lower all around and rode so much better than stock people would be amazed. Not so much opportunities with the xD. Even in a big city like Dallas. |
got tein basics also, front still can go lower but i can't clear a few of my daily spots so it will have to stay at that height. ride is ok, i would like it a little more stiffer. lol. but for only height adjustments it's good enough for now.
|
oh yea.. forgot to mention i have about an inch to lower up front and about the same in back. but roads here suck so i only dropped about 2"
I don't bottom out unless i attempt a rutted alley like behind grandma's house lol. |
tanabe's sit lower in teh back cuz they are meant for the Yaris. that equals soft spring rates cuz the yaris is shorter and lighter. duslike saggy butts
|
Yeah, the Teins are made for the Yaris also. The drop is the same on the 4 door sedan as the xD. I think the xA springs were the same as the Echo, but they were closer in weight, I think.
I liked my Teins, but I read where someone was selling theirs because they were too soft. I don't rally mine, but enjoy a spirited curvy ride once in a while and want something that is going to handle, not bounce around. |
better to get a rear sway bar or whatever pople call that rear beam tie bar
|
I have the rear sway bar on mine now, like it.
|
Any additional chassis stiffness is your friend IMO, especially with lowered vehicles.
I had Hotchkiss front and rear sway bars and a front strut tower brace on my lowered xB and it rode and handled much better than stock. As soon as I can scrape up the funds I plan to do the full works on my xD. Springs, shocks, strut tower brace, sway bars and sub frame braces. The stiffer the chassis the more the energy of motion is controlled by the suspension instead of arbitrarily absorbed by the rest of the car. |
Do the xA's sway bars fit the xD's as well? Everywhere I look I only see the tc b's and a's but no xd...
|
no just the yaris.
|
Well, I ended up getting the Tein's, arrived today. I'll post up thoughts and pis after I get them on and they settle.

im running the TRD 2" lowering springs on mine. everything else is stock. would still like it to be an inch lower or so. i just want to eliminate the space between the tires and the fenders
|
i cant post a FS thread yet but if anyoen is interested in springs i will have tanabe DFs for sale. only used for about 500 miles

Yeah, TRD's are only 1.5" drop.
|
thats what the scion dealer had told me they were. scion just labeled them "lowering springs". the dealer told me 2 inches. since i never got out with a tape measure, i took his word for it. after getting on here, i found out i actually had a smaller drop than 2"
|
Its all good. The salesman doesn't know most of the time. They don't all read the specs, just figure lowering springs must be 2", lol. They are good springs, I just wanted to go lower so I sold mine and bought Tein's. The TRD's do make the car look better than stock.
|
And handle better..
|
True. you can tell its lowered if im parked next to a stock one. lol. i like how it looks, so im not in a hurry to do anything just yet. i've only had the car a month. haha. but i still wanna go a little lower so eventually if i find a good deal on some other springs or can find a good trade or something with the TRDs then that would be an option. gonna roll it like it is for a while and concentrate on other things to work on.
just got the billet grille for my bumper put on yesterday. the upper billet grille should be here in a few days. will have pics after that. then it's on to the interior for some paint and stuff. thanks for the info guys. |
1sweetxd you have the modbug just like me LOL. my 2011 is still getting payments so i have to restrain myself from molding...you have no idea how hard that is to do. hey so if you are gonna sell your TRD springs----well, give me a holler!
|
you have no idea!! i've just had the car a month and i have a million things i wanna do. haha. once i get the rest of my grille and get some paint on the inside, im prolly gonna let her ride for a while after that. i figure that's a good stopping point. at least for now.
i will definitely keep you in mind squid if i decide to sell my springs. |
I'm looking into the Tein's. I had a set on my old WRX, and LOVED them. Obviously they only offer basic's for the xD. I don't want to drop the car by much if at all, so this does not bother me.
What do you guys mean when you say "soft"? Are they nicer than stock? I hate the stock suspension. But i like my suspension tight as i can get it. Gonna be doing full sway's and bar's and the likes. Are the Tein's worth it though? Any thoughts? |
idk if u wanna go all low.. im on coilers.. went alil below from the tire cause ii have the tire and fender gap and hit a bad curb due to slippery roads and it was bleeding from the oil pan:emotions122: haha. but yea slammed looks good. thats why ii still haven't raised it lol
|
just got my Tein S-Tech's in today!!! im gonna do my best to get some time this weekend to get them put on. i will post pics as soon as i get it done. can't wait!!
|
i'm happy with my stock TRDs. i can't go any lower with the roads i run on everyday. the 18" wheels make up the gap pretty good.

just installed my new Tein S-Techs this weekend. really quick install and it looks sick!! eliminated all of the wheel gap. i will have some better pictures up in a day or two.
BTW....how do i post larger pictures here in the thread? rather than using the smaller attachments? for some reason i can't figure it out. ha. |
Man I should have got the S-Techs...That drop looks great...By the way, I upload using photobucket.com

For your next set of better pics-take them from the other side: where the sun shines light to the side of the car you want to see. We're looking at shadows and trying to see a drop. |
sorry bout that duck. i'll do better next time. lol.
also, i've noticed that when i come down off a bump or a dip, that something is rubbing on the driver side front. sounds like either my tire is rubbing the inside fender well or it sounds like im hitting and scraping the road. well, i know im not low enough to hit the ground. and i've gotten down and looked in the fender well and didn't notice any rub marks on the tire or the plastic. next, im gonna take the wheel and tire off and take a look. any ideas on what could be causing the rubbing? or where i should look first. i know several people are running the S-Techs on 18's so clearance shouldn't be an issue. im sure its an easy fix. i may just need to take the spring out and re-install to make sure all alignment is correct |
