Painting/Tinting Tail Lights and Mirror Turn Signals (PICS)

Tomorrow morning I'm headed over to Randy's (Randode's) house for a tail light painting/tinting party...I'm also going to do the same thing with the mirror turn signals...The work is being done by Just1n of Precision Werks, the same one who has done all my other paint work...Here is the before pics of the items removed: I will post more when I put them back on after they are finished...

Can't wait to see the finished product.

^^^ I'm with Rob

YELOSUB 01-31-2010 11:01 AM

Oops, I can't believe I did not update this thread with the pics yet...Sorry :( Anyways, Just1n from Precision Werks hit them with several coats of Candy Smoke first and then w he put (2) light coats of Hot Lava paint over the top of the smoke...You can see the orange flake at certain angles, looks pretty cool and better in person...I have to take better pics when my car is clean (it had rained like crazy here in AZ) and out in the sun but these pics will have to do for now...

Looks good, can we get some daylight pics?

SciFion 02-01-2010 11:42 AM

Those lenses came out sweet! The paint is applied to the outside or inside?

YELOSUB 02-01-2010 11:56 AM

Thanks, it's applied on the outside...Light output remains excellent...

SciFion 02-01-2010 12:07 PM

Have you washed your car since the install? How does the paint stand up?

YELOSUB 02-02-2010 12:18 AM

Yes I have washed the car and they held up fine...These were done professionally so they will hold up...Today I went over to Randy's and we color sanded them with 1500 grit sand paper and then hit them with some compound and a buffer...After that we waxed them and they turned out incredible! Here are some pics taken this afternoon...

That looks sweet as hell. They almost look factory, or maybe a factory option.. :)

YELOSUB 02-02-2010 12:54 AM

Thanks...I'm really happy at the way they turned out...

TheLittleDeviant 02-02-2010 11:41 AM

YELOSUB 02-02-2010 09:41 PM

Thanks everyone...

Now for some reason I want to murder out my white scion.

TheLittleDeviant 02-03-2010 09:30 AM

^^^ Do it, the look of the tails when they are smoked out is phenomenal!

Luc1f3r 02-03-2010 01:18 PM

a murdered white car is a panda... not murdered... only black cars get the murdered treatment...

and thread jack, shoulda gone darker. :p

edit: should do the bottom rear reflectors too..

and as for the hold up.. if you have a body shop and someone who knows what they are doing (key) the paint job will be the same as what is on your car... the paint aint going anywhere.

YELOSUB 02-04-2010 12:43 AM

Dang Luci I forgot about the bottom ones :)...I guess I will have to get those done along with the 3rd brake light...

Luc1f3r 02-04-2010 09:26 AM

the 3rd break light is INSIDE the car, as long as your window is tinted i dont really know why you would bother painting it?

simmons0613 02-07-2011 03:42 PM

I painted everything you see red, I left the turn signal and reverse light area untouched and they look sick.

TexXBox 02-09-2011 02:31 PM

I did my tails, rear reflectors and mirror turn signals myself with rattle can Rustoleum smoked lens tint paint. Color sanded and buffed them out after a few days. Came out great (imo), really stands out against the white, was cheap and for me, easy.

KylexD 12-09-2011 07:53 PM

That is sick man, both of yall's lights look great. There's no way I could do this myself....or maybe I could. What did ya'll use to get those results? I have been waiting for some smoked OEM heads and tails to come to market just to buy them....but that looks just as good if not better.

1sweetxd 12-10-2011 08:03 AM

i went to autozone and used Nightshades on mine. i really liked using it, because i f***ed em up the first time i did them. then all it took was a rag and a little paint thinner and it came right off. then the second time came out a lot better

if you decide to go with nightshades, just do real thin coats. i used like 3 almost 4 THIN coats. let it dry for about 20 minutes between coats. really simple.

Ok, cool. So you just tape off or cover around the lights, and apply that stuff right on. How does it hold up to the weather? And do you have pics of your results?

1sweetxd 12-13-2011 12:56 PM

you can tape em off if you want. but i would recommend pulling the lights off the car and then spraying them. its real easy. just open the back hatch and there should be access to the screws on the side. take out the screws and then the lights pop out. unplug your bulbs and your ready to spray.

i taped off the blinkers and turn signals, by personal choice. you can spray em however you want. but the stuff holds up real well to the weather, beings that it is made to go on taillights. i've had it done for 9 months now. no problems at all. but like i said before. if it messes up for any reason, it can be taken off with paint thinner.

i have pics on my page if you want to see how mine turned out.
