Current gear?

The Scion website seems to say that the car will tell you what gear you are in near the gear handle (or whatever it's called—where the various gears are indicated). My 1997 Camry did this. When it was dark, I could tell what gear I was on by looking down at the gear because there'd be a little orange dot next to what gear I was in.

In my 2010 Scion xD, there's no indication of what gear I am in around the gear itself. On the dashboard there is, but it would be nicer to have it right there near the gear handle.

If this doesn't come standard, can I get it added somehow?

I'm in the habit of only looking at the gear so sometimes I put the car in the wrong gear. One day I'm afraid I might put it in drive when I mean to be in reverse, or vice versa.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. It's not that big of a deal, but I wanted to ask everyone.

indicator is in the dash like the rest of the Scions. I can say I haven't payed attention to nothing other than my tC since it's auto. my other two are 5 speeds. But i do belive I saw a how to somewhere about this.

I would think that you could mount an LED on the shift lever under the casing surround and then get artsy with drilling out holes. Or you could try taking the bezel apart and running wires down to the shifter and remounting the dash indicator near your shifter.... Or even better pick up another dash cluster from your local dealership and seperate the gear indicator and splicing the wires into the factory one. then you would have 2 indicators, one on your dash and one next to the shifter.

You can try and find a wrecked XD as well in a junkyard and play with that one to figure it out correctly before installing it on your own car.

I like this idea.

But remember with automatics. All the way up is Park. First click in Reverse. and Third click is Drive.

Unless you have some weird transmission. lol

But seriousness It should be doable but maybe cost and take fabrication.

Sorry, this is an old post... I just wanted to update you all and tell you that I got used to the gears and now I'm not worried about this at all. Thanks for the help though :)
