Cheap way out..... remove stock air box, replace with 3 1/2" inlet filter.
I used a Fujita filter for mine.

Looks like a good way to go. Do you feel any difference?

rhino74s 05-28-2009 05:37 PM

not really, I have a Magnaflow exhaust also.
Sounds alot better but I have an automatic so not terribly interested in boosting hp, :winner_third_h4h:

Luc1f3r 05-28-2009 09:58 PM

i have the weaponR intake... for what i paid and the pieces i got.... i wish i woulda made my own.

scion4us 06-16-2009 07:41 PM

Has anyone that installed the Fujita intake noticed a power gain? I hear K&N makes one as well, but pricey. I live in Cali and unless it's C.A.R.B. legal then I will have to take it off and replace a CAI with the stock box for smog.

Come on TRD, help us out!!!!! AEM, where are you????:shakehead:

I am running the exact same set up in mine, I have a manual though, I would say that the combination of intake and exhaust made a difference in power, either one alone I couldn't see making any noticeable gain...

I did the exact same filter thing on my xD, Rhino, but I have a manual and a TRD axleback - sounds really great...

rhino74s 06-17-2009 07:51 AM

Yeah, sounds alot better with the intake / exhaust on.
I love my Magnaflow, nice low deep tone.
The TRD exhaust sounds really good too.

Oh, also if anyone wants to get rid of the goofy handle thing on the stock intake, I found a solution.
Found a 1" nylon plug at Lowe's, in the specialty drawers by the nuts/bolts section.
Fits perfectly in the place of that dumb handle. (See pics above)

Cylon_xD 06-17-2009 09:48 AM

yeah, I found some kind of plastic plug just laying around on the floor in my house that fit that "handle" hole, I think it may have been packaging from one of my kid's toys we had just opened, you know, the packaging that takes an army to undo? lol! iI'll probably look for that plug from Lowe's, though, since it is black and the one I put in is translucent white plastic...

I was going to get one of those axlebacks from PrecisionMuffler.com they make for the xD, since theirs was a lot cheaper than the TRD ($270 vs. $450), and they used a Magnaflow can... but then I found a TRD listed on Ebay for $219 starting price, and no one else bid on it, so I got it for the $219 plus Free Shipping! And the TRD is pretty polished stainless steel, the precisionmuffler one was not... so, what the hey, I ended up with a really cheap and really shiny TRD axleback instead!

scion4us 06-26-2009 07:44 PM

Has anyone replaced the stock air filter with the TRD? I did and noticed a nice change in the TRD exhaust sound but can't really feel any power gain. SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A C.A.R.B. LEGAL INTAKE!!!!!!

Not sure about C.A.R.B. legal, but here is something I hadn't seen before.
Scroll down to Scion, then xD and click on "video" to watch dyno run. Turn up your volume.

I have seen it in person and know the girl who owns the xD. She is from SE So Cal and it is not C.A.R.B. legal but she said she noticed a definite power gain. So those of you who can get away with it she claims its the best out for now.
I was thinking long term and added the supplemental insurance to my ride, so every mod I do has to be TRD or not illegal in Cali.

gotDAMD 07-08-2009 12:21 AM

The car in the video looked like a RS1 at first, but then looked like a reg xD with a 5axis kit painted hot lava.

misformartin 07-17-2009 06:02 PM

She has an Rs 1 and she changed out the damd lip kit for the five axis... pretty dope i have an injen intake... i like it alot some power gains... not much but some

scion4us 07-19-2009 08:16 AM

Martin is on here too! Sweet! I know where the Injen came from too. Still think it's the only one for now right Martin?

misformartin 07-19-2009 04:18 PM

well.. nah injen just released theirs... but mine is still the only car exempt one in existance... fujita is working to get their carb legal... : )

YELOSUB 08-19-2009 12:05 AM

I just did the Spectre air filter from Auto Zone that lots of others have done as well...Less than $30 bucks and simple to install...If you get it, make you get the one that says, 3", 3.5", 4"...There are removable rubber inserts for each application...Here is a pic of mine with engine bay lighting:

Cool DIY intakes guys. IMO the Injen CAI is not to bad for the money, I like the way you can run it as a CAI or a short ram intake.

Tim.TRDSparks 08-24-2009 09:13 AM

Good news everyone!!

INJEN intakes have been produced and will be ready for shipment tomorrow. If anyone wants to place an order just let me know.

Very nice intake, from what I can see online it isn't overpriced that much compared to the others.

Yea, I got mine 2 months ago as a "pre-fit" deal with DC SPORTS. I know quite a few guys that work there. I also got a hold of one of the first Killer Glass Radiator hoses. I am a direct dealer for DC SPORTS, Killer Glass, DDM TUNING, Etc. If you guys ever need to check active inventory lists, let me know! I checked with DC Sports on Friday, and it will be May before they are ready to ship out the header and axlebacks. I am the only Megan Racing dealer on the East Coast, and they are currently working on a very nice Catback also. I will give more details as they become available.

They run anywhere from $269-$289 depending on where it comes from, and they are made by AFE!

Can you post up pics of the magnaflow exhaust i have searching for a pic and i can't find nothin anywhere, how much did it cost you, n whered you get it from? im really interested in that exhaust.

macko_macko 01-08-2012 07:33 PM

What is the exactly manufacture number of that intake. Cause i saw this one F5-350S on ebay.

1sweetxd 01-13-2012 01:40 PM

for the DIY intake....im guessing from what has been said, a filter can be purchased at autozone. it needs to be 3.5". does that come with all the clamps and piping? or will other parts need to be purchased along with the filter? and is there any kind of adapter or something else to buy.

im wanting to do one this weekend or next. can someone give me a quick rundown of exactly what i would need so i can get it all in one trip to the store?

KylexD 01-13-2012 06:52 PM

Since everyone is talking intakes, no need to start a new thread. lol I have a simple/complex question. And I want different opinions on this. Take a stock xD, out of the intakes available for aftermarket WHAT INTAKE WILL GIVE YOU THE BEST PERFORMANCE? Without factoring in the other upgrades.
