Drag DR-31 installed

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...=Car%2FMinivan

Purchased from ^^.

Specs: 16x7, +40 offset. Flat black color.
Weight: 16.7 lbs (from manufacturer website)

Impressions:

For $110 a piece with free shipping and a $40 discount, these wheels became my first choice after several months of research.

I decided to FIRST choose a tire size/brand/model that had the biggest bang for the buck. I've had 17+ wheels and tires on previous cars before but i wanted my xd project to be more budget friendly. My 2nd choice wheel was actually the forge-like quality enkei Fujin ($175) in 17x7.5, another great bang-for-buck wheel at 17.5 lbs each, with a quality and durability better than Drag.

I'm still on the stock B Stones but will upgrade later when they wear out to 205/55/16's, which have a lot of availability in choices for cheaper prices than 17s, and FAR cheaper (and lighter) than 18s.

Unlike a lot of XD projects i was less concerned with "show" and wanted more "go". with that said the Drag DR-31's shaved an amazing 8.3 lbs per corner. The ease of acceleration is obvious and the car feels more nimble! I'm sure braking performance has improved, as well. These results are what I was hoping for and I am satisfied. I chose flat black to go with my black exterior for a "stealth" look, plus i've always wanted black wheels.

Dealing with Discount Tire Direct was mostly trouble free. The sales person (chrisx xtn 51804) i dealt with was friendly. the only issue was some miscommunication between Discount Tire and UPS on my instructions to have the wheels dropped shipped to my local shop. The issue was resolved, however, thanks to the sales person.

oh, and for the record, THE STOCK OFFSET FOR THE OEM 16" STEELIE IS +32. Found out from local shop, since no one here seems to know.

6 months into ownership and my project XD's mod progression has been super quick. I'll have to stop for awhile unless i want to live off bread and water ($)!

Not bad looking at all.

simmons0613 10-15-2011 11:24 AM

pic of the install?

CWB211 10-15-2011 11:43 AM

Not a bad looking wheel. They were on my original list of wheels I was looking at a few months ago also. I purchased my wheels from discounttiredirect also and I have nothing but good things to say about them also.

Whack-A-Mole 10-15-2011 05:16 PM

Thank for the info! I'm going to look into that, and I also thought the stock offset was +39.

I did some looking on discount tire direct, and found one I really like. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...r=4&wd=17&rw=7

I'm sticking with 17's. I have no idea why I always forget about discount tire direct. Thanks again!

I have no will power. I just bought them. Anybody know where I can give blood?

Vengeful Squid 10-16-2011 09:31 AM

sorry no pics.
@mole: yeah daylites made it to my list but the color choices were just not my thing (attracts too much attention, although i considered orange).

Here are my short lists for wheels:
17s
Enkei Fujin
enkei PF01
RPF1-black
Enkei NT03 +m
DR-31
Motegi Traklites
Konig Runaway, black

16s
OZ Ultraleggera
Drag DR-31
RPF-1 silver
Motegi Traklite
Konig Daylite
Work Emotion CR-KAI

btw sites/sources i looked into:

tire rack
discount tire direct
LSD motorsports
oakos
1010 tires

edit: why give blood when you can get paid to masturbate? sperm bank FTW

Whack-A-Mole 10-17-2011 02:59 AM

dream job

Anyway, I like those dr-31, but I was wanting to stay with 17 so I can keep the 50mm sidewalls. I also like the dr-23; they look like painted old school (90s) Nissan wheels. The konig daylite had horrible colors except the black as well as the gold. I think their site said the daylite in 17" weighs 14.5 lbs. It also said they were on special order so I have no idea when to expect them though the black was in stock.

Whack-A-Mole 10-17-2011 04:20 PM

Well they contacted me, and said the daylite gold ones I want would take 8-12 weeks. I told them I'ld wait. I guess the upside is I might need new tires by then?

JDMJim 10-17-2011 06:05 PM

I thought the stock offset was +38.

CWB211 10-18-2011 10:03 AM

Thats what I thought also.

Whack-A-Mole 10-18-2011 04:26 PM

You guys are probably right.

Vengeful Squid 10-21-2011 10:41 AM

hmmm...what source do you have for offset +38?

Whack-A-Mole 12-17-2011 05:25 PM

Got mine in and on! Konig Daylite gold 17 5x100 weight ~ 14.5 lbs. not bad looking if I do say so myself. I need springs soon. Here's some pics.

whack a mole that looks GREAT!! what tire and tire size did you go with? i'm guessing 205/50 or 225/45....? and yes some springs and tint would compliment that look. what springs do you have in mind?

Whack-A-Mole 12-21-2011 05:37 PM

The tires from my TC wheels fit these. 205/50r17. Going to sell the tc rims now. When I get it lowered, I'm set on eibach. I'm trying to deside between sport line or pro kit. (probably pro) Got more on my plate to work on right now before I do the springs. I have the projector headlights in need to retrofit into my extra headlights. Let's see some pics of your rims. I want to see how they look on the D.

Vengeful Squid 12-25-2011 10:29 AM

Sorry, the holiday season is insane busy. I'll get someone to snap a few pics of my car and wheels with the drop. Why would you want prokits instead of the sportlines? just wondering.
also where did you get your projector lights? i was wondering about doing those but don't know how/where to get them. so you bought extra headlights in addition to projectors? I'll try and have the pics posted this week. do you use photobucket, or...?

Whack-A-Mole 12-25-2011 08:29 PM

Yes I use photobucket because I can use the app with my iPhone. Take pics with my phone then upload without ever using my desktop. I can then copy the image code from photobucket, and paste here on the forum like this.

The kit I got is from the retrofit source based in Atlanta. I have already bought a el cheapo kit from hidextra that hooks up easy, but the bulbs change color quickly and don't last. Plus the don't use projector just a Casper shield.
This is the kit I got from retrofit source; http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=237
What's nice about it is the mounting is simplified. Instead of cutting and using silicon, you just use the alignment washer that should level the cutoff then you can use factory adjustments on the stock housing to aim them. I don't know if everything will go smoothly yet, but I don't see why not.

Last, I like the pro kit because it should be a little softer. My Grandparents are getting old, so I like to drive them when possible in my car. I don't want a potthole to dislodge their dentures or a clot.

Vengeful Squid 06-30-2012 11:39 PM

Update, 13 mos. later: Wheels are doing great. Well maintained even in open air parking (no garage) and not a SINGLE curb rash.
