There are multiple clip spots all around the grills. It is easier to remove the grills if you remove the bumpers.

Personally I don't like the look of the front bumper without the grills. But...

Not totally ridiculous if that is what you want. But just make sure you prep the grills prior to painting so the paint will adhere. Would you be buying new grills to replace the stock grills or just...
