Default Third Scion for me
Hey guys (and gals), my name is Ben and this is my third Scion. I have had an xB1 and tC1 but unfortunately was young and stupid and got rid of them out of spontaneity. Now I have an xD and LOVE it. I also love that fact i picked one up with a manual transmission.
So with that being said, Hello.

do like i did and just cut off your stock muffler. our car has a built in resonator so it sounds really good when you get rid of the muffler. it cost me like $75 at the local muffler shop to cut it off and then run straight pipe out the back to a tip. sounds great. actually sounds better than the $250 muffler i was gonna buy and put on the car.

i say go this route if you want to get some good, deep sound out of your car without spending a lotta cash. then you could always come back later and install an aftermarket muffler if you wanted to.

^^^ That's what I did. I recommend to people to pull the muffler off then ride around the block and see if you like the sound before hacking up your stock muffler. That way you can find out if you like it or not. Then put the muffler back on until you can do as 1sweetxd said and go to muffler shop or make the exhaust yourself. I like the sound. To me it is deeper. And at highway cruising speeds you really don't notice it. but if you accelerate it sounds like decent aftermarket exhaust. not the whiney ebay weedeater sound.

I don't recommend running extended periods without some type of pipe directing the exhuast flow. Other wise the way the pipe faces up when you pull the muffler off you aregoing to heat up your floor pan and start melting the tray surrounding the spare. But a quick ride around the block wont hurt it as long as the ride isn't like a 40 mile ride.

I have a trd axle back. slight bent on the muffler since my d is nearly slammed to the ground. no holes and still works great. 130 plus shipping

I would rather run a muffler just because i don't want any problems with law enforcement or smog. Here in California you can't pass smog without a muffler.

I love the sound of the TRD muffler

You shouldn't have problems with the law. I thought the same thing. Ur muffler only makes the car quiet. Ur catalytic converter should handle the smog part. So as long as u keep the catalytic converter, u should be able to pass smog

Normally I would agree with this but CA is anal about there laws especially car mods.

Most cases you can say yes the muffler is not a part of the exhaust that affects emissions other than tone.

I have heard a few people like the strup exhaust. but I haven't heard it in person.

Nice on the Exhaust and coils. If you haven't changed suspension on xd be prepared for about 1.5 to 2 hour process for your first time.

Well i started this evening just to tease myself. haha. Now i have to wait until at least thursday to continue. Basically have everything under the hood ready to go. Just wanted to familiarize myself with it. I would rather not rush it.

well i am hoping to have some pictures to share this weekend once i finish. Didn't get to do anything today but fingers crossed for tomorrow once i get home from work. Downside is that there is usually an hour or so of light left outside when i get home.

only thing I want to change on my exhaust is the egg smell. I hate it.
