Default "# of miles left to drive" indicator doesn't update sometimes
I'm sharing my Scion xD 2010 with someone right now, and when they put gas in it, they usually only put in about $10 or $15 worth, which is a little less than or about half a tank.

They notice when they do this, the bar indicating how much gas is in the car goes up to where it should, but the "# of miles left to drive before you run out of gas" indicator (for lack of knowing what the real term is does not go up. Instead, it just keeps going down as you drive. Not sure what happens when it gets to zero yet. It was at about 2 miles when I just turned my car off.

I'm not worried that the car is going to stop working when it gets to 0, because I know there's gas in it, but I was wondering if there might be a way to reset it or have it re-scan the gas tank somehow.

Thoughts?

Try reseting the trip odometer when you put gas in. also one of the other screens I think it is the avg. MPG one you can hold the trip reset button for a second and then let go. it may change screens but it reset the MPG and believe it also rests the mile to empty.

I beleive what I did to mine last time I did that. it did same thing. I only put like $10 in and the miles stayed and then got to 0 and stayed there. but after reseting the trip and turn car off and on it change IIRC. it's been a while so can't remember my exact steps.
