well wait jim, if you want to get innovative,may I suggest something else then?

Remove the piece entirely, cut off the tabs on the bumper that hold it on, then get some mesh grilling from Home Depot, and glue it onto the bumper from the back side of it, so you wont see the glue and you have mesh grills instead of the plastic ones that it came with... let me get you a picture of when I did mine, final product to look like this:
